Camping at the Buskin

We went camping and fishing with some good friends this weekend at the Buskin River. We had a fun camp site with great climbing trees for the kids and lots of adventures and great hot dogs and smores over the fire.
We got up in the morning and broke down camp and went fishing on the river. The kids were sooo excited for their first time fishing in Alaska!

Here is Ken and the boys with our friend, Kevin, bringing in a Humpie (pink salmon). We only took the bait casting rods and so Ken and I would fish until we caught something and then let the kids help us reel it in. That was okay for a while and then Cole decided he could do it himself, but that is in the next blog.

And the girls decided that they liked sitting in the lawn chairs holding the fish beater and the net and just waited for us to call them, but even then they didn't get all too excited.

And Ken went up to his neck in the river all for the sake of his favorite lure that got snagged at the bottom and he had to go and retrieve it! I just had to get a pic of that one!! It was really cold water, but luckily it was a nice sunny day for him to dry out. So much for those waders that are now all the way full of water, and weigh 20 lbs.

We had a great time and the kids were all excited for the next time that we get to go out and do this. Which won't be far off, considering this place was only 8 miles from our house. We could just pack up and go any time to go fishing and any weekend to go camping without much planning ahead. So nice!!
