Trunk or Treat

We went to our ward's Trunk or Treat last night and had such a good time there with everyone. We couldn't have asked for a better night with the weather. It was in the 40's and perfect for the kids to go around to the cars and trunk or treat last night. As I was getting the kids ready and the car decorated, it reminded me of Moses Lake and doing this each year with the ward. Then the kids reminded me that this will be their first year of going door to door to trick or treat on Friday! They are sooo excited to do this! My poor deprived children! Where we lived in Washington, we were out in the country with not too many neighbors and so we never went door to door.
Here is Quincy in her Chicken costume. I think she makes a great chicken. She looked so cute!
Dylan was a spooky guy with a mask that has glowing eyes, but you can't wear masks at church functions, so he was just the kid in the black outfit. He didn't care. :)

Myah was Cleopatra. I think she was all about the jewels in her outfit! She saw this at WalMart and just had to have it. She makes a beautiful Cleopatra.

Cole was an archer. He did not want to be Robin Hood or any "character". So this was what he invisioned that an archer would wear and we put it all together. It turned out pretty good for doing it 1 hour before trunk or treat started! I had the burlap and all the supplies, we just had to create it. He is here with his partners in crime, Kyle and Kaytie. Kyle had the same costume as Dylan and Kaytie was a mime. She did a great job! She even had a little sign around her neck with the words Trick or Treat on it. They had fun together. But then they always do!!

Here is our car decorations. We won best decorated car. Whoo Hoo!

The kids thought this was the best game! Bobbing for donuts suspended from a string above your head. Here is Kaytie, Myah, Dylan, and Kyle.
Like I said we had a great time and saw some crazy costumes!! I will try to get better pics of the kids in their costumes on Friday before we go out trick or treating.
Love ya!

Fun with Fish Heads!!!

Fish heads, Fish heads, rollie pollie Fish heads.
Fish heads, Fish heads, eat them up yum!!

We just couldn't resist tormenting him with his fishs' head! One of his favorite songs is about fish heads and he sings it all the time! Oh, the fun we have here in Kodiak!!!
Love ya all!

Cole's fish

Ken and the boys went down to the beach tonight to go fishing. It is now legal to snag and net fish down on the beaches. Cole was playing around down there by where the stream connects to the ocean and he saw a fish swimming around in some really shallow water. He tried to net it with a little net and it just wasn't working too good, so he decided to jump in and wrestle it out of the water! He grabbed it and tried to keep it from jumping out of his hands as he got it to the shore. He finally succeeded and brought himself home a 10 lb. 29'' silver salmon. He was most pleased with himself and proceeded to bring it up to the bedroom to show me after he got home!!! Silly boy!! :)

Silly Dylan

Yesterday, Dylan went fishing with Ken after school. They were gone for awhile and all of a sudden, Dylan comes walking through the front door. He goes in the bathroom and does his thing, and while he was in there Ken called me and said that he had dropped off Dylan and he was heading back out to fish some more. Dylan didn't know that I had talked to Ken when he came out of the bathroom. He comes over all sad looking and says," Mom, I have some bad news for you. Dad got eaten by a bear." To which I replied, " So how did you get home?" He said," I walked all the way home." Then I asked him," So how did I just talk to Dad on the phone?" He got this surprized look on his face and said,"Dad just called you from the bears tummy?!?" He was trying so hard not to laugh!!! It was soooo cute to see him try and pull a fast one on his old Mom!! He is my one kid that can never lie, because his silly little grin gives him away everytime! :)

A girl with fashion sense!!

Okay, so I was down teaching piano lessons this morning and sent Quincy up to get dressed for the day. I told her that she was big enough to pick out her own clothes and get dressed. Well, little did I know what I was agreeing to!!! She came down the stairs about 10 minutes later dressed for the day. She had on a striped sweater, a flowered dress, checkered capri pants, and to top it off navy blue tights! Well, I had told her she was old enough to take care of it, so my hands were tied and I had to live with what she chose! So we went shopping in this and she was sooooo proud of herself that she would tell everyone that she had done it herself! At least they did know then who picked out the clothes and that I wasn't blind!! But I told her she did a great job getting dressed and that she was a beautiful princess. To which she replied,"I know Mom!!" What a silly goose!!

Conference Saturday

After watching the two Conference sessions today at the church, some good friends of ours took us out to find low bush cranberries. We had to go way up the mountain to find them. I was so amazed at these little berries. I was on the look out for a shrub of some kind with berries on it when we first arrived, but there were no bushes in sight! Then my friend Lila said to look down by my feet and I looked and was surrounded by cranberries! The plant that they grow on are only maybe 1" to 2" tall!! They were all over the mountain! Oh, so yummy! So we picked for a little while and just ate them up. But it got way too cold!
Here is a pic of Kodiak from the top of the mountain in the fall. Everything is starting to turn colors. It is so fun to watch the colors gradually move down the mountains.
Here is the storm that was blowing in while we were up on the mountain. So pretty with the sun still shining on part of the bay.
And behind us, another pic of the storm blowing in, this one has snow in it! Yes, I said snow! We are forcasted to have snow tomorrow!!! Which is very possible considering the high today was 37! We will let you know!

Picking Potatoes

We went out this last week and harvested all our potatoes that we had planted earlier this summer. The kids had so much fun digging in the dirt to pull out all the spuds. They thought that was so cool that what we had planted earlier this summer had turned into a whole bunch of potatoes.
Quincy was a little apprehensive at first to get her hands dirty, but after awhile she was right there digging with the rest of them.

Cole liked finding the huge funny looking spuds! Boy did I have flash backs to potato harvest from my teenage years when I was working on the combine sorting potatoes! But I must say it was much more fun and rewarding this time doing it with the kids than it ever was back then!

Bear Scare!

So Quincy and I were home today after work and just playing in the front yard because it was a nice day, when State Troopers came down the road and told us to either get in the house or leave now because there was a bear in our back yard that they were following. Apparently he had been at the kids' school before that out on the playground and they had to keep all the kids in. The bear then decided to head our direction. So I had Fish and Game Officers and State Troopers with high powered rifles on my road following this bear all afternoon. They got him cornered in the field just a couple of houses down from ours and caught him. Needless to say we left and headed to the preschool to work in my classroom for awhile. Wow, bears aren't usually out this time of day in the neighborhoods etc!! Kind of scary considering today was the school fun run and the kids were all running up and down the street in front of the school just about a half an hour before the bear wandered onto the playground! Oh, the adventures we have here in Kodiak! :)

Ken calls another "fish day"!

Ken decided to call another "fish day" from work today. He got off around noon and headed down to the river. He went to try a new fishing hole today that we have been told not to fish because it is where the bears are. Well he decided it couldn't be any worse than the river he has been fishing. He had been seeing bears every time he went.
He caught both of these within 30 minutes of each other and had to come home because he had reached his limit for the day.
She's not too scared of them this time. Dad promised not to let them touch her!
Not a bad day fishing when you bring home 11+ lbs of fillets!
So Ken wants to know, what is the going rate for salmon fillets down south? :)
